THE RAILROADS OF MONTANA Starting back in 1998 while living in Central Montana I came across the idea to print a calendar of the railroads of Montana. While having lived in many different parts of the state since the 1980's and crisscrossing the state many times in travels, I felt had enough interesting images to fill the pages. I also decided to insert important Montana transportation "it-happened-on-this-date" historical dates and logos / insignias of the various railroad related companies that have helped shape Montana's railroad history. Perhaps some of the long time customers may remember the first 1999/2000 18-month calendar I did. The contract printer that printed that calendar did not do a very good job, but after that slow start - I was able to produce some fine 12-month calendars from 2000 thru 2002 when it just became too expensive to continue printing full-color products. Now with the increased coverage of broadband Internet connections that have become more widely available, it is possible to supply larger files for folks to download - no more waiting for hours as a large files are downloaded. Unfortunately, the cost of four-color printing has not gone down, if anything the cost has escalated along with everything else. That's why I decided to present the Railroads of Montana calendars for on this website free, so all could enjoy the information and images of the railroads of Montana. The Railroads of Montana calendars are available has an Adobe® Reader .pdf file. It will be a fairly large file [between 7 & 10 megs], so even with a broadband/cable connection, it may take awhile to download. I will make an announcement on some of the railroad discussion groups when the each new year is up and ready to download. The files for 2011 are set up so that you download six months at a time, which will come out to twelve-pages to print [24-pages for the entire year]. Each month has one 8 1/2" x 11" landscape format calendar image and one 8 1/2" x 11" calendar text page. I used the exact same calendar format and fonts as the original, so if you print out the photo section of the calendar on "Photo" paper and the calendar portion on high-quality paper - you should have a fairly good representation of the original calendar. I suppose printing and color perception will be subject to your monitor, printer and paper. These are variables that cannot be predicted, since it would be impossible to anticipate every possible configuration of monitor, printer and paper. That being said, I have tried to set the colors, brightness, contrast and saturation to a "neutral" balance so that everyone should be able to enjoy the publication on just about any computer configuration The files for the 2012 calendar are the entire 12-months. It is formatted the same as 2011. Each month has one 8 1/2" x 11" landscape format calendar image and one 8 1/2" x 11" calendar text page. Click here for the 2012 Railroads of Montana calendar.
